3,473 Drones Form India’s National Bird

The highlight of the evening was a magnificent peacock formed using 3,473 illuminated drones. As the drones moved in precise synchronisation, they created an impressive aerial representation of India’s national bird against the night sky.

The achievement earned the title “The largest aerial display of a bird formed by multirotor/drones” from Guinness World Records. The record was achieved by Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC), Mysore, and the Energy Department, Government of Karnataka.

The drone show was performed by BotLab Dynamics, an Indian drone technology company incubated at IIT Delhi. The team used coordinated flight technology to create multiple aerial formations, with the peacock emerging as the centrepiece of the performance.

Guinness World Records representatives verified the achievement and presented the certificate to CESC officials following the show.

Srihari Karanth Captures the Historic Event

For Srihari Karanth, a drone pilot known for aerial cinematography and travel videos, the event was another memorable opportunity to document a major spectacle in Karnataka.

As a drone pilot and content creator, he regularly captures landmarks, cultural celebrations, infrastructure and tourism destinations across India. His footage of the Mysuru Dasara drone show preserves the visual scale of an event that brought together thousands of drones in a coordinated aerial performance.

Being present at a Guinness World Record event also adds to his experience documenting major public events and technological achievements through aerial video.

Mysuru Dasara’s Guinness World Record Journey

The 2026 achievement followed another record-setting drone show at Mysuru Dasara in 2025, when 2,983 drones formed a jumping tiger, earning a Guinness World Record in the mammal category.

In 2026, the celebration reached another milestone with the giant peacock formation. The two achievements highlight how drone light shows have become an exciting addition to Mysuru Dasara, combining modern technology with recognisable symbols of Indian wildlife and culture.

The latest record also demonstrates the growing capabilities of India’s drone industry and the potential of synchronised drone displays to create large-scale visual spectacles.

Mysuru Dasara is one of Karnataka’s most celebrated festivals, known for its royal traditions, illuminated Mysore Palace, cultural performances and the grand Vijayadashami procession.

The drone show brought a modern dimension to these longstanding celebrations. By recreating India’s national bird in the night sky using thousands of drones, the event showcased how technological innovation can complement cultural traditions.

For visitors and residents, the record-setting display became another memorable highlight of Dasara 2026 and a proud moment for Karnataka.
